Central Chapter Dinner Meeting:

10 Things I Wish I Knew When I Was a Consulting Engineer

Have you ever wanted to learn more about the fundamentals of building codes or how to write an effective plan check response? These skills are often missing from structural engineering curriculums but can be essential for project coordination and permitting. Join SEAoA as we explore the first 15 chapters of the building code with ICC certified plans examiner, Lauren DiPalma.

Speaker:

Lauren DiPalma, PE, SE

Plan Review Supervisor

Community Development Department

After 13 years as a structural consultant for Thornton Tomasetti in Chicago, IL and KPFF in Portland, Lauren transitioned to a plans examiner role for City of Vancouver, WA. Lauren’s current role as plan review supervisor includes overseeing all aspects of building code compliance, including life safety, accessibility, energy, and MEP. This experience gives her a unique perspective on what she wished she had known as a consulting engineer, and she hopes to share these insights with the structural design community.
