Building Official Panel Presentation Moderated by Jeannette M. Pfeiffer
This presentation will consist of a panel discussion with three building officials in the central Arizona area. This conversation will guided by Jeannette Pfeiffer, Central Chapter Chairperson, and include a Q&A from the audience.

Chief Building Official, Maricopa County, Planning and Development
Mark is currently the building official for Maricopa County and has a BSE in civil engineering from Arizona State University. He worked for Robin E. Parke Associates / Paragon Structural Design for five years where he worked on microchip fabrication facilities, hospitals, and schools throughout the US. Mark also worked at the City of Phoenix from 1997 to 2018 as the structural technical lead before being selected as the building official.

Deputy Director/Building Official, City of Phoenix, Planning & Development Department
JJ is currently the building official for the City of Phoenix. He has a bachelor’s and master’s in civil engineering and engineering mechanics from the University of Arizona where he graduated in 2012. He is a registered Civil and Structural Engineer in Arizona. He previously served as the Structural and IBC technical lead in Phoenix where he helped craft structural and architectural interpretations and policy. Before joining the City, JJ worked as a structural engineer in building consulting at CDM Smith, Caruso Turley Scott, Schneider Structural Engineers, and Collins Structural Consulting in North Carolina.

Stanimira “Mira” Todorova graduated from the University of Architecture, Civil Engineering, and Land Surveying in Sofia, Bulgaria, in 1994 with a Master of Science degree in Commercial and Industrial Structural Engineering. Before coming to the United States, she was involved in designing multi-story reinforced concrete residential and commercial buildings in Bulgaria and the United Arab Emirates. Mira's career in plan review began with BJY in 1998, where she worked with UBC Standards on projects in Phoenix, Seattle, Tucson, and the San Francisco Bay Area. She later continued with GP Engineering and her company, Madara Engineering, assisting local Arizona jurisdictions with plan reviews. She has performed and supervised structural plan reviews for municipalities such as the City of Phoenix, Town of Paradise Valley, and City of Chandler. Her project portfolio includes hotel/resort developments, high-rise buildings, educational institutions, office and retail buildings, hospitals and medical centers, public assembly venues, theaters, and single- and multi-family housing. Mira holds Arizona licenses in Civil and Structural Engineering. For last decade she has worked for the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community as a Structural Plans Examiner and Compliance Division Manager.
