Frequently Misunderstood Wind and Seismic

This session on wind and seismic loads will discuss a number of frequently encountered situations and how to use current research and codes to address these designs safely and efficiently. Topics will include:

Wind:

  • Wind loads on balcony handrails
  • Shielding and buildings with expansion joints
  • Drift limits and serviceability under wind loads
  • Wind loads on rooftop screen walls
  • Wind loads on temporary structures

Seismic:

  • Redundancy,
  • R, Cd, and Ωo
  • Irregularities

Emily is also Martin/Martin’s technical leader on earthquake and wind engineering, recognized nationally for her expertise and activity in code development and research. She has presented technical seminars across the nation and internationally on topics related to her special expertise.
