    The City of Phoenix Planning and Development Department is seeking a Structural Plans Engineer to review and examine complex building construction plans for compliance with adopted construction codes and ordinances. Advice and guidance is provided to architects, engineers, contractors, and field inspectors related to the interpretation of the Phoenix Building Construction Code and in resolving complicated code issues.  Technical expertise is exercised to develop and maintain consistency among plan review and inspection staff.

    This recruitment and any interview process as a result of this recruitment may be used by multiple hiring managers and multiple departments throughout the City to fill any related current or future vacancies; other recruitments and appropriate eligible lists may also be considered.


    $68,390 - $104,000 annually. Candidates may be hired above the minimum depending upon qualifications.

    • Three years of experience in the building construction industry relating to structural engineering for buildings or similar structures.
    • Bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering.
    • An equivalent combination of related experience and education may be considered.

    By the end of probation, must meet the following requirements:

    • ICC Building Plans Examiner certification
    • Registered Professional Engineer / Structural or Civil (PE) in the State of Arizona
