Lessons Learned from My Failures

by Mo Ehsani, PhD, PE, SE

Most engineers like to revel in their accomplishments and projects that they complete successfully.   In this presentation, I will share with you how a failure in a project sent me back to the dreaded statics textbooks and helped me invent one of the most innovative products in my career.

Biographical Sketch

Following a 28-year career at the University of Arizona, Dr. Ehsani left the university in 2010 as a Professor Emeritus to focus his attention on QuakeWrap, Inc., a company he had founded in 1994.

QuakeWrap offers turnkey design/build solutions to its international clients. Numerous award-winning projects and creative solutions/products developed to address the clients’ needs attest to the unique capabilities of this company. Dr. Ehsani is an innovator that combines his academic and field experience to develop unique technologies that benefit the construction industry. His latest inventions include PileMedic, a unique system for fast strengthening of columns that eliminates the need for divers in underwater repairs! He has been featured on major media such as CNN, National Public Radio, the History Channel, and Engineering News Record for his expertise on strengthening of structures, particularly related to earthquakes, terrorist attacks and other potential structural disasters.
