Speaker: John Denny, P.E. Gervasio & Associates, Inc.


The Central Chapter of the SEAoA is hosting a dinner presentation to discuss the specification and performance of metal plate connected wood trusses. The presentation will track the construction of a truss starting with its fabrication process and finishing at the truss installation in the field.  The presenters will discuss factors affecting metal plated joint performance and the importance of temporary and permanent lateral bracing.  The presentation will also include a discussion of common problems and failures encountered in the field along with appropriate repair methods for metal plate connected and bolted wood trusses.

Mr. Denny's Bio:

Mr. John Denny received a Master of Science degree in Wood Engineering from the University of Missouri.  He has worked 8 years for a metal plate manufacturer designing trusses, reviewing work of 10 designers and serving as director of research.  He then worked for Weyerhaeuser 6.5 years designing panelized roof systems and developing a wood I-joist product line with two unique purlin truss designs.  Mr. Denny was chief engineer of Schuck Components Systems for five years where he reviewed the work of 8 designers, completed commercial truss takeoffs and performed quality control.  For the past 16 years, he has been a forensic engineer for Gervasio & Assoc., Inc, specializing in wood construction and fire damage.
