This seminar will cover some of the continuing to emerge topics in concrete anchorage design as it relates to the current and soon to be adopted ACI codes. Highlights include:

** Detailing requirements for Supplementary Reinforcing vs. Anchorage Reinforcing 

** Changes made to the ACI 318-11 - Appendix D 

** New ACI Certification Program required for installation of all post-installed anchors

KENT CARLSON, P.E. – BIO

Kent Carlson, PE has been a Licensed Professional Engineer for twenty-eight years.  During this time he has practiced Structural Engineering in both the Public and Private sectors.  His public work has included both analysis and design of infrastructure facilities, and detailed plan review of submitted public project designs.  His private work has consisted of extensive analysis and design of a variety of structure types – i.e. Reinforced Concrete, Structural Masonry, Structural Steel, etc.

 

Mr. Carlson has owned and operated a Material Test Laboratory & Inspection Agency.  During this period he was a Certified Special Inspector for Reinforced Concrete and Structural Masonry.  One of his firm’s specialties was the qualification testing (i.e. ICC ES) of post-installed anchors and fasteners.  In addition, his firm also performed Special Inspection services for all aspects of concrete and masonry construction including installation of post-installed anchors.

 

Over the last two decades Mr. Carlson has been a consultant to several post-installed anchor manufactures.  He has assisted them with qualification of their anchor systems and educating building officials and design engineers on technical issues relating to their post-installed anchorage systems into concrete, masonry and unique base materials (e.g. Stone, Adobe, URM).

Mr. Carlson has been the Field Technical Service Manager, Western Region for Powers Fasteners since 2008.  In this position he educates design engineers and building officials on the building code requirements and proper design procedures for post-installed anchorage.  In addition, he provides technical information and training on the Powers Fasteners Anchoring Systems and the Powers ACI 318, Appendix D Anchor Design Software (PDA – Powers Design Assist).
