Monorails, Design and Construction. Civil Primer.

 

Monorails is a transportation system that is under-represented around the world. New interest in developing countries is bringing it back to deliver reliably fast deployments in crowded cities in the far east. The talk will address what type of conditions and steps to be taken that lead to a successful development of monorails.

 

 Biographical Sketch of Mr. Carlos Banchik


Carlos Banchik was born in Argentina and obtained his undergraduate there. He came to the states with his wife, Adriana and they graduated with a Master degrees in engineering from UC Berkeley. After graduation, Mr. Banchik joined the VSL Corporation, and international company known for innovative uses of post-tensioning within buildings and bridges. As Division Engineer for the San Jose branch, Mr. Banchik was the lead civil-structural engineer in the Astronauts Memorial in Cape Kennedy, the self-launching gantry for the construction of the H3 highway within Halawa Valley, in Hawaii. He was responsible for the design and construction engineering of several automated people movers in Las Vegas, Hawaii, Indianapolis. In 1994 he designed his first monorail in Las Vegas, the MGM Bally’s monorail, designed-built-commissioned in 18 months. Between 2000 and 2003 Mr. Banchik was the lead guideway engineer for 4 mile long, Las Vegas Monorail. In 2003 Mr. Banchik started Innova Technologies, in Las Vegas, and he has been involved in mass transit proposals and projects ever since. In 2010 started supporting the 15 mile São Paulo Line 15 monorail. Author of several articles about the projects he was participated. Mr. Banchik is licensed in 10 states, and he is actively involved in ASCE as an Associate on ASCE 21, Automated People Mover group, and he is the president of the International Monorail Association, based in Switzerland.

He is married to his sweetheart, and they have 3 children.
