The Causes and Prevention of Structural
By: Ali K. Nessaee, PE, SECB
This presentation will provide an overview of the main causes of structural failures including; errors in design and planning, flaws in construction and /or materials, soil and foundation failure and failures due to natural forces such as wind and earthquake. Examples of each type of failure will be given and causes of some of the major catastrophic structural failures will be discussed. Also, some structural failure preventive methods and procedures including ; quality assurance during the design and construction and coordination as well as proper communication among members of different design disciplines with each other and with the construction management crews will be discussed.
